| Most of the plants encountered in our area can be eaten,
however some of them taste terrible, offer little nutritional value and
a few will make you sick, and a small number can cause serious health
issues. The plants in this section are organized by use. Click on
the description or the picture to link back to the page which contains
the detailed information about the plant. Many plants are useful for
making cordage, starting fires or other uses. Non-edible uses of plants
is on the Tools and other page.
It is important before eating any plant to have a concrete identification. It is wise when consuming a plant that is new to you to only try a small amount. Sometimes individuals may have allergies or other reactions to plants which do not occur in other people. Medicinal use of plants often requires special preparation techniques. Where available, links to website with instructional techniques are given in the species account, also check the references link on the home page under Edible and medicinal plants. |
