Black Capped Chickadee
Small active bird, often feeds at ends of branches. Black and white striped head
Chestnut-backed chickadee
Small active bird, often feeds at ends of branches. Differs from black-capped by  brown shoulder color and smaller size.
Red-breasted Nuthatch
Often seen on trunks of trees, black eyestripe, red-brown undersides, longer bill than chickadees
Dark-eyed junco
Ground feeder, dark hood like head, white bill. Shows white on sides of tail when it flies.
House Finch
Thick beak, red color. Brown stripes on sides separates this from other finches.
Pine Siskin
Smaller than typical finches, thinner bill, very striped on belly, sides and back, sometimes shows  yellow patch on wing
Song Sparrow
Brown striped bird, ground feeder, chest stripes often all merge into a large brown spot, pumps tail in flight
Spotted Towhee
Black head and back with white spots, reddish brown sides, distinctive red eye. Ground dweller
Golden Crowned Kinglet
Very small bird, fast moving. Black stripes with yellow on top of head.
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Small bird, fast moving. Often flits its wings while perched. Eye-ring. Easily confused with Huttons Vireo.
Downy Woodpecker
Black back with white spots and central white stripe down back. Bill sized less than one half head  width.
Hairy Woodpecker
Larger than downy, Bill size greater than half width of head. Outer tail feathers completely white.
Winter Wren
Tiny wren, brown striped. Ground dweller, often in ferny woods.
Bewick's Wren
Long upturned tail, distinctive white eyebrow. Long curved bill
