Language Arts and Social Studies
|
All of our classroom projects
and activities stretch student reading, writing, and communications
skills. We place a high value on literacy, and students are given class
time to read, develop vocabulary skills, and talk about what they are
reading. We write for a variety of purposes, and work towards writing
competently, with self-confidence. Students learn presentation skills
and have many opportunities to communicate their learning to an audience
using a variety of media. |

Social studies is generally integrated with language arts activities, and includes geography, history, civics, and economic factors. Our older students work towards earning credit in Washington State history or contemporary World issues, and the middle level students may learn United States history, the history of Canada and Latin America, and World and regional geography. There will always be an emphasis on “Environmental History,” where we explore the human relationship with land, natural resources, and sustainability issues. |
